The Wiener Neustädter Altar: Detail, The Dormition

As she dies Mary is kneeling at a prie-dieu, just as in Annunciation images. Behind her are St. John and the eleven other apostles. Behind the prie-dieu, Jesus takes her soul (still praying and already crowned) in his left arm while he blesses the viewer with his right hand.
